Social Networking

This policy is in reference to, but not limited to, social networking aspects such as blogging, wikis, social networking sites, virtual worlds, or any other kind of social media. The absence of, or lack of explicit reference to a specific site does not limit the extent of the application of this policy. Where no policy or guideline exists, employees should use their professional judgment and take the most prudent action possible. Consult with your manager or supervisor if you are uncertain.

KBP understands and encourages employees to communicate by way of personal blogs, message boards, networking pages and other forms of social media outside of their job function. However, if an employee elects to engage in social media of any form, they are required to exercise good judgment, abide by KBP policies, and comply with the following:

Online Representation
KBP employees are encouraged to interact and treat all contacts with the same professional approach and respect applied to their contacts offline. Employees must keep in mind that their actions represent KBP just as they would in any public forum, and should exercise discretion, thoughtfulness, and respect for KBP, its employees, its customers, its business contacts, and its competitors.

Do Not Be Malicious
Always be fair to your coworkers, our customers, and our vendors. Keep in mind that you are more likely to resolve work-related complaints by speaking directly with your co-workers or by utilizing our problem-solving policy rather than by posting complaints to a social media outlet. Nevertheless, if you decide to post complaints or criticism, avoid using statements, photographs, video, or audio that reasonably could be viewed as malicious, threatening or intimidating, that disparage customers or other companies with which we partner to do business, or that might constitute harassment or bullying. Examples of such conduct might include posts that could contribute to a hostile work environment based on race, sex, disability, religion, or any other status protected by law.

Confidentiality
Employees may not disclose KBP confidential or proprietary information through social media or otherwise. Confidential information includes financial information, proprietary processes or technology, confidential personnel information, etc. All social media outlets are subject to any other confidentiality agreement that an employee may have entered with KBP.

Expectation of Privacy
You are personally responsible for the content you publish on blogs, wikis, or any other form of social media. Be mindful that what you publish will be public information. If the Company receives a complaint from an employee about information you have posted, the Company may need to investigate that complaint to ensure that there has been no violation of the harassment or other Company policies. In the event there is such a complaint, you must cooperate in any investigation of that complaint, including providing access to the posts at issue.

Response and Crisis
In the case of a brand social media crisis, employees are asked to report the situation immediately to their supervisor or the Human Resources Department. Employees are encouraged to withhold from responding to such claims or involve themselves in the crisis. The corporate office communication department or appropriate company officer are the only employees authorized to respond to any social media crisis.

Post Only Appropriate Content
Maintain the confidentiality of the KBP’s trade secrets and private or confidential information. Trade secrets may include all personal and financial information regarding our customers and information concerning confidential financial aspects of our business. Do not post internal reports, policies, procedures, or other internal business-related confidential communications.

Do not create a link from your blog, website, or other social networking site to a KBP website without identifying yourself as an employee of KBP.

Express your personal opinions. Never represent yourself as a spokesperson for KBP. If this Company is subject to the content you are creating, be clear and open about the fact that you’re an employee and make it clear that your views do not represent those of the Company, your coworkers, or our customers. If you do publish a blog or post online related to the work you do or subjects associated with KBP, make it clear that you are not speaking on behalf of KBP. It is best to include a disclaimer such as “The postings on this site are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.”
